When I was about three-quarters finished recording the Haint Blue album, I decided that it had too many sort-of-deep, semi-profound, kinda-philosophical songs, and needed a couple of lighter things for some balance. So I wrote what I referred to during the sessions as "The Dumb Song". Its official title is "Damn This Winter Blues", and even though it's a little bit dumb, I still like it. It's about my dislike of winter, which is real. I'm a warm weather guy, and would be happy to have a year with only three seasons. - Steve H. |
1)
Wintertime has come to my little town
Wind
blowin' off the river / the snow is fallin' down
Lord, I'm beggin'
please / won't you send us more degrees
'Cause I'm freezin' / with these damn-this-winter blues
2)
Well, the roads out here / are just like sheets of ice
And I've fallen on my ass / once or twice
If I were a polar bear / I probably wouldn't care
But I'm not / and
I've got / the damn-this-winter blues
3) Here on the banks of the
mighty Harpeth River
I believe I'm turnin' blue / all I can do is shiver
Now, I'm no winterphile / so this really ain't my style
Got the Harpeth
River / damn-this-winter blues
4)
Wish I was where those warm winds blow
Down
in Costa Rica / or maybe Mexico
And it might take
about / two weeks to thaw me out
Got the Harpeth
River / damn-this-winter blues
