I was warming
up before a gig, trying to get myself loose by playing some uptempo stuff
on the guitar -- not thinking too much about anything -- and what came out was a chord pattern that wound being Givin' Her Up (Is Gettin' Me Down). It was in a little club called Trancas on the Pacific Coast Highway just outside of L.A. A couple of years later, when I was writing songs for my Push Comes To Shove album, I took those chords, added words, and found a melody. It's fun to play, although the chords are kinda backwards. -Steve H. |
chorus: Givin' her up / is
gettin' me down
I'm blue when the sun comes up /
and when the sun goes down
I was flyin' high / now I've hit
the ground
Givin' that woman up / is gettin'
me down
1. When she left / I told myself that
I'd be strong
And that I'd forget her / well, I
guess that I was wrong
'Cause since she's gone / I'm tellin'
you
I've been every shade of blue
Givin' that woman up / is gettin'
me down
repeat chorus
2. Now every night / I'm waitin' for
that phone to ring
And I don't
sleep a wink / and I can't eat a thing
Well, I've
had broken hearts before
But this one's
hurtin' / so much more
Givin' that woman up / is gettin'
me down
repeat chorus.
"Givin'
Her Up" appears on the Steve Haggard CD,
