"Home Is
Any Honky-Tonk" is one of the three songs I've recorded that Larry
Shaw and I
wrote together. As the name implies, it's a honky-tonk, hardcore country song. I was in a roadhouse-type bar in Alabama, doing a gig, and I mentioned to someone that no matter where we played, the places all seemed pretty much the same... so we always felt right at home. Not long after that, I wrote the music and chorus to "Home Is Any Honky-Tonk". A few weeks later, I played it for Shaw (a fine songwriter) and we wrote the rest. - Steve H. |
1. Well, I've traveled / all over
this land / from the snows of Alaska / to the Florida sands
And one thing is certain / wherever
I roam
I never feel like / a stranger in
town / And those homesick blues / never get me down
'Cause when I step into a honky-tonk
I feel right at home
chorus: I don't care if it's
down in Georgia / out in california / or way up on the coast of Maine
I've been from Alabama / all the
way to Montana / and every bartender knows my name
Give me a longneck / small talk /
pretty women
Put another quarter in the juke and
play my favorite song
Oh, there's no place like home /
and my home is any honky-tonk
2. Let me tell you / it's always the
same / two-step dancin' / and a hot pool game
And some couple in the corner / where
the lights are down low
It might be called / The Dew Drop
Inn / or The Starlight Lounge / but let me tell you, friend
Any honky-tonk I'm in / is "Home,
sweet home"
chorus: I don't care if it's
down in Georgia / out in california / or way up on the coast of Maine
I've been from Alabama / all the
way to Montana / and every bartender knows my name
Give me a longneck / small talk /
pretty women
Put another quarter in the juke and
play my favorite song
There's no place like home / and
my home is any honky-tonk.
"Home Is
Any Honky-Tonk" appears
on the Steve Haggard CD, Mysterious Ways.
