This is one
of those songs that you write when you're on the road, and ready to get
back
home. It came to me on the last night of a tour, and I was indeed packed and ready to fly home to Nashville. I wrote the melody in my head, because I'd loosened all of my guitar strings in preparation for the flight... so they actually all were "out of tune". I'm a big fan of slow, minor-key blues progressions, which is what this song basically is. -Steve H. |
1. I'm goin' home to Nashville
/ gonna get my feet back on the floor
Yeah, I'm goin' home to Nashville
/ gonna get my feet back on the floor
If it's the last thing I ever do
/ gonna get back to her door
2. It's been so long since I saw her
/ she might've given me up for dead
Well, it's been so long since I saw
her / she might've given me up for dead
And I'm lonesome for some love now
/ and a place to lay my weary head
3. Well, the blues have got me reelin'
/ sadder than a crescent moon
The blues have got me reelin' / I'm
sadder than a crescent moon
All my roads are leadin' nowhere
/ all my strings are out of tune
4. Packed my bags this evening / tomorrow
I'll be going home
I packed my bags this evening / tomorrow
I'll be going home
If I don't die while sleepin' / I'll
be leavin' here by dawn
