The original version of "Mysterious Ways" was the title song of an earlier album of mine, and I wasn't planning on writing a second version of the song... but over the years, new verses kept coming into my head. So I started to play around with some different arrangement/instrumentation ideas, and "Part II" was born. Steve H. |
1. I was in some smoky bar / by the
Alabama line
There I met a wise man / and we started
drinkin’ wine
He said “son, there’s one thing /
I’ll guarantee to you
If you dream the right dream / it’ll
always come true”
Then he ordered up another round
/ and wandered off through the haze
You know, the Lord works / in mysterious
ways
2. Well, I had a reservation / at
the Heartbreak Hotel
I was gonna end it all / but then
I figured “what the hell?”
It was a bad day for dyin’ / and
suicide’s a bore
Besides, I always wonder / what tomorrow
has in store
And I woke up the next morning /
to the most glorious of days
You know, the Lord works / in mysterious
ways
3. I was looking out the window /
and much to my surprise
I could see an empire crumbling /
right before my eyes
I saw New Orleans drowning / watched
the waters rise
Saw soldiers under fire / in a war
built out of lies
And I watched the leaders stumbling
/ like rats in a maze
You know, the Lord works / in mysterious
ways
4. Well, I believe in reaching / for
the stars above
I believe in redemption / and the
power of love
Now maybe that’s a blessing / and
maybe it’s a curse
Oh, but that’s the way I am / for
better or worse
You gotta take the hand that’s dealt
you / and play it as it lays
Because the Lord works / in mysterious
ways
The Lord works / in mysterious ways.
