The original version of "Mysterious Ways" was the title song of an earlier album of mine, and I wasn't planning on writing a second version of the song, let alone a third version. But it just seemed to happen. After I'd written and recorded "Part II" for my Love Conquers All CD, more verses "mysteriously" appeared, and so.... Steve H. |
1. I was walkin’ on some back road
/ rain was pourin’ down
Wanderin’ in the wilderness / not
a soul around
Everything was darkness / like the
middle of the night
And I began to wonder / if I’d ever
see the light
Then I just opened up my eyes / and
I was amazed
You see, the Lord works / in mysterious
ways
2. I crossed the ragin’ river / swam
against the tide
Well, I just had to see / what was
on the other side
And I crawled up on that shoreline
/ where wise men fear to tread
Expecting desolation / but I found
love instead
And like the sun it was shining /
and it warmed me with its rays
Ah, the Lord works / in mysterious
ways
3. Life ain’t always easy / it can
be a trail of tears
But you gotta keep believin’ / and
cast away your fears
The happiness you’re seekin’ / you
can’t buy it off a shelf
No, all you gotta do is look / deep
inside yourself
And you'll find it there waitin'
/ and it's been there always
Because the Lord works / in mysterious
ways
4. Some say love is an illusion /
that it don’t even exist
And you know, I pity them / for everything
they’ve missed
Sure it can break your heart / and
I’ve been there once or twice
But that’s the chance you take /
when you’re seeking paradise
They say, "love conquers all" / and
that’s a loaded little phrase
Yeah, the Lord works / in mysterious
ways
