Nothing Between Us is in the grand tradition of cheatin' songs that political correctness has all but banished from the sanitized, sterilized country music of these times. Songs, after all, are not supposed to be correct, they're supposed to be about real life. Oh, well. When I wrote this, I was listening to a lot of stuff by the Louvin Brothers, the Kendalls, Gary Stewart, and people like that. (Come to think of it, I still do.) -Steve H. |
1. There's talk goin' down / all over
town
They say / I'm slippin' around /
with you
They whisper / there's something
between us
Oh, darlin' / if they only knew
chorus: There's nothing between
us / no, nothing can keep us apart
Tonight with your lips on mine /
and your heart beating next to my heart
We were meant for each other / and
we knew it right from the start
There's nothing between us / and
nothing will keep us apart
2. They say that we meet / each night
to cheat
On some old backstreet / until the
dawn
They swear / there's something between
us
Oh, but darlin' / they've got it
all wrong.
chorus: There's nothing between
us / no, nothing can keep us apart
Tonight with your lips on mine /
and your heart beating next to my heart
We were meant for each other / and
we knew it right from the start
There's nothing between us / and
nothing will keep us apart
There's nothing between us / and
nothing will keep us apart.
