This was one of my first promotional
photos. I
bought that oversized Guild
12-string in 1972,
but I'd guess that this photo
was taken maybe
five years later. The guitar,
which I wound up
using mainly as a six-string
-- for a variety of
reasons -- got really battered
over the years,
with a nice assortment of scratches,
gouges,
and even a crack or two. I'd
stopped using it;
then in early 2008 my friend
Tom Smith, who
is not only a great guitar
player but also makes
and repairs guitars, fixed
it up pretty much like
new. (Actually, even better
than new... he made
it into a cutaway!) In case
you were wondering,
that's Franz Liszt in my guitar
case.
