When I wrote
"You Were Right", I was hearing it as a very countrified acoustic song;
and in fact, I played it that way for a month or two. Then we were
in studio recording it, and
Jack Howell (who co-produced my "Rough Edge" CD with me) suggested a different feel and arrangement. More of a big ballad. I was fairly skeptical at first, but gave it a shot, and that's the way it appears on the album. People seem to like it. More often than not, when I perform it live, I do it as something of a cross between the two versions. -Steve H. |
Intro: You were right...
1. You told me more than once / that
I'd lose you
But I just laughed / and went on
my merry way
Now it seems your warnings / have
all come true
And I sure don't feel like laughin'
/ today
chorus: You were right / and
I was wrong
I guess you knew where it was leading'
/ all along
It's taken the darkness / to make
me see the light
Now the verdict's in / baby, you
win
You were right
2. Things I did / things that I didn't
do
Lookin' back, I wonder / was I blind
?
Not to see / that I was losin' you
And that I was runnin' / out of time
repeat chorus.
"You Were
Right" appears on the Steve Haggard CD,
Rough Edge.
