ones.

STEVE'S
WEEKLY RADIO PROGRAM
|
In May 2008, Steve
began co-hosting (with Kimberly King) a weekly one-hour radio show
called "The
Haggard & King Radio Hour" on Radio Free Nashville. The program
presents a wide variety of music -- both recorded, and live in the studio
-- as well as interviews and special features. The show airs in the Nashville
area every Tuesday from 4:00-5:00 PM on
WRFN (Radio
Free Nashville), located at 107.1 on the FM dial. Or you can listen live
on
the internet at www.radiofreenashville.org ... so tune in to "The Haggard
& King Radio Hour"! |
STEVE HAGGARD & THE NASHVILLE ALL-STARS
|
For the past few years, Steve has been
teaming with fellow Wild Oats Records artists Joel
Alan Lehman and Kimberly King to
lead this exciting, dynamic band that specializes in a
cool mix of rockin' roots country
and blues. Steve and the band have done very successful tours in Germany,
Lithuania & Latvia thus far, and they'll be returning to Europe in
2012.
A live Nashville
All-Stars CD is scheduled for release by Wild Oats Records
in Fall 2011. |
Early in 2009, Steve began work on a
book that he's been thinking about writing for quite
awhile. It's going to be a combination
of 1) a guide for independent artists, musicians and
songwriters that will teach them
how to not only survive -- but to thrive! -- in the music
business; and 2) a memoir of Haggard's
fascinating decades-long music career... complete
with plenty of lessons learned, wisdom
gained; stories of some of the great musicians and
characters who Steve has known and
worked with; great tales of faraway places; and some
reminiscences of always interesting,
occasionally wild (and often funny) times on the road
and in the studio. It should be quite
a book! Be on the lookout for it in the Spring of 2010. |
SISTER
CITIES OF NASHVILLE
|
For the past few
years, Steve has served on the Board of Directors of
Sister Cities of
Nashville,
a great non-profit
organization dedicated to cultural, educational and commercial exchange
between Nashville
and its various international sister cities. As head of the organization's
Music Committee,
he has been active in coordinating -- and supplying Nashville musicians
for -- musical
events in Magdeburg, Germany; Caen, France; and Belfast, Northern Ireland. |
CONSULTATION
& CAREER COUNSELING
|
During his decades
in the music biz, Steve Haggard has done just about everything: he's a
producer, musician, singer and songwriter; he runs a record label and is
a music publisher;
he has booked
countless tours in the USA and overseas, written articles and columns for
music publications... and even hosts his own radio show in Nashville. There
aren't many people around with such a wide range of music biz knowledge
and experience, so it's no surprise that artists often turn to Steve for
advice and assistance with their music careers.

FRANK "ANDY"
STARR DOCUMENTARY
|
"One of the most
interesting, memorable projects I've ever done was producing what proved
to be the last
album by the legendary Rockabilly Hall of Fame member, Frank "Andy" Starr.
Because of
the musical history involved, and because Frank was a truly fascinating
character, I decided to make a documentary about the experience: we filmed
at the sessions, at various locations around Nashville, etc. We shot around
10 hours of footage, including performances and a bunch of excellent interviews
with Frank. The fact that I had zero experience as a film maker didn't
deter me, as I tend to be a "learn-by-doing" guy. Luckily, there have been
some people involved in the project who do know what they're doing!
I'm currently reviewing the footage -- and trying to raise a bit more cash
-- in preparation for editing the documentary. It will be called The
Rockin' Return Of Frank "Andy" Starr, and should be ready early in
2012." |
STEVE'S
BLOG & ASSORTED WRITINGS
|
Steve has done
a lot of writing over the years. He contributes on a fairly regular basis
to the Nashville music magazine Shake!, and had a popular
column called ("The Real Music City") in the Nashville Free Press.
until that fine newspaper's unfortunate demise. He has written reviews
of CDs and live performances; articles on the state of the music business
and the realities of working as a professional in the industry; and features
on, and interviews with, Nashville-based singers, songwriters, musicians,
producers; etc. And starting in Fall 2011, Steve will be hosting and writing
a weekly blog online. Watch this space for the details! |
Awhile back, Steve
began to record duets with some of his favorites among the many artists
he has produced
in recent years. "It's kind of an informal project," says Steve. "Just
one song
with each artist.
We're doing all covers of songs that each of us happens to like. It'll
probably
take another
year or so to finish, as it's really a personal thing for me -- sort of
a souvenir --
and isn't aimed
at the music biz as such, or at commercial success. So I'm not in a rush
with
it". So far,
he has finished duets with Garry Jackson, Glenn French & Joel Alan
Lehman; and
is working
on songs with Bryon Russell, Kimberly King, Teddy Glenn and Mike Oakley. |
Starting with the group's founding back
in 1999, and until it disbanded in 2007, Steve was a key member of
this swingin' and original Nashville-based roots rock/rockabilly/jump blues
band. In addition to playing harmonica and serving as the group's harmony
singer, he also produced the band's three fine CDs, Dare To Be Different,
All Tricked Out and
Starr Struck. |
